Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
